Community Bridge

As a full-time Community Bridge, Inc. SHOP MECHANIC AND EQUIPMENT MANAGER you will make sure our landscape crews have vehicles and landscaping equipment that is in working mechanical condition, looks professional and is safe to use. To thrive in this position, you'll have 3+ years of experience as a vehicle mechanic, preferably working on Fords both gas and diesel, and have your own hand tools. You will be responsible for performing preventative maintenance, annual inspections, diagnostics, and repairs to vehicles and landscaping equipment, both in the shop and in the field on job sites or breakdown locations. You need to have knowledge of hydraulics and heavy landscape equipment, including skidsteer, track hoe and farm tractor.

You'll need a valid driver's license and be insurable, be willing and eager to learn, detail orientated, dependable, hardworking, comfortable working with computers and tablets, and take initiative. Your compensation will be determined on your experience.  Health insurance is provided (1/2 company pay) after 90 day probationary period.   • Valid Driver's License (Required)
  • Good driving record for minimum 2-years and insurable (able to provide copy)
  • Minimum 3-years verifiable shop experience or related trade school
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and physical
  • Able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Must provide and use own hand and air tools
  • Willing to attend certification classes, workshops and additional training on company and personal time.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize work
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work alone
  • Must be able to understand, read, write, and speak fluent English
  • Effective in written and verbal communications.
  • Maintain accurate and current maintenance records of repairs performed
  • Ability to work and without with general supervision
  • Assist the fleet manager as needed
  • Ability to operate all company vehicles and equipment in a safe manner
  • Moderate walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and heavy lifting/carrying
  • Work inside and outside under moderate exposure to extreme temperatures and humidity
  • Maintain emotional control under stress
  • Able to work irregular hours as needed. As well as be able to satisfy an 24 hour on call status when needed


  • In depth knowledge of vehicle and large landscape equipment repair and preventative maintenance
  • In depth knowledge of small engine repair and preventative maintenance
  • Knowledge of basic welding (stick, wire and gas)
  • Knowledge of hydraulics
  • Be proficient with a variety of hand tools, diagnostic tools, power tools, and multi-meters
  • Ability to operate and maintain equipment with a general degree of efficiency common to the landscape industry.
  • Ability to perform equipment inspections on most types of equipment
  • Demonstrates competency in the following mechanical functions: brake service, electrical service, engine tune-up and service, troubleshooting engine problems, engine overhaul, transmission service, diesel engine repair, welding and fabrication, small engine repair, large landscape equipment, hydraulics service, and trailer service.
  • Follow established safety procedures to perform job duties including lifting, climbing, etc. Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
  • Help keep shop, equipment and tools in safe operating condition.
  • Operate tools, equipment and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
  • Work around moving objects, vehicles and machinery with moving parts.
  • Exposure to toxic chemicals, exhaust fumes, gasoline and diesel fuels.



Repair and perform preventative maintenance as directed on work orders on vehicles and large landscape equipment, including but not limited to trenchers, excavator, skid steer, farm tractor and forklifts.

  • Repair and perform preventative maintenance as directed on work order on small landscape equipment, including but not limited to blowers, string trimmers, edgers, large mowers (36" and above) and 21" mowers.
  • Examine equipment to determine extent of damage or malfunctions
  • Adjust, clean, lubricate, disassemble and repair functional and broken parts of mechanical devices as necessary. This includes some welding.
  • Change and sharpen blades
  • Determine if a vehicle should be Out-of-Service (OOS) based on service standards
  • Perform Annual Vehicle Inspections adhering to the standards set by District of Colubia.
  • Perform brake maintenance and inspections as required and in the manner outlined.
  •  Perform safety inspections on equipment; maintain quality standards and is responsible for safety of vehicles
  • Place orders for non-stocked parts as needed
  • Keep accurate inventory of parts and replenish as needed
  • Keep accurate, legible and timely paperwork documenting repairs and preventive maintenance
  • Report any serious maintenance problems, unusual findings, equipment abuse or safety hazards to manager
  • Thorough and productive within standard repair time
  • Maintains a clean and organized work space
  • Participates in training programs and meetings
  • Willingness to continue education, assist and train co-workers, and be actively in search of knowledge and certification
  • Uses repair manuals to insure proper procedure for repairs
  • Answer road calls and travel (to job site or breakdown location) for repairs of all equipment and vehicle breakdowns
  • Works safely
  • Understand and comply with all company policies
  • Regular attendance and punctual for scheduled shift
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Perform seat and tire repairs and light maintenance on company vehicles and equipment.
